Notes about hosting Wikigogy

February 9, 2007 Wikigogy moved to Web host provider Dathorn.com where we have a Basic virtual webhosting Linux account.

November 16, 2006 Wikigogy moved to Web host provider Dreamhost.com, Crazy Insane virtual Web hosting Linux account, but we found Dreamhost server response time often too sluggish. Dreamhost put too many users on their servers.

March 20, 2006 Wikigogy launched on a FreeBSD server at California Community Colo Project.

[edit] Usability

Server speed is important to MediaWiki's responsiveness to site users. A slow wiki is no fun to use.

If our current Web host fails us, other web hosting providers to consider include:

[edit] Sitelutions.com

These MediaWiki sites are hosted on Siteground virtual hosting accounts:

[edit] Dreamhost.com

Wikigogy was hosted, 2006, on a Dreamhost.com virtual Web hosting account but Dreamhost virtual hosts are often over-used and therefore often serve MediaWiki pages and page edits slowly:

time to save an edit: 1 1 1 3 1 1 1 2 2.5 1 1 1
time to save an edit: 1 1.5 3 1 1.5 2 1.5 2 4 3
