This is the Japanese name for what we call Paper-Scissors-Rock. It's an easy way to determine a random winner of two people. Since this is a favourite of Japanese students outside of class, a lot of teachers will bring it into class inside structured games.
[edit] Basic rules
One hand (usually the right) can form a rock (a fist), scissors (two fingers in scissor shape) or paper (flat hand).
The two people count to three and have their fisted hands go up-and-down to the counting (1-2-3 or 3-2-1). One the third beat they must form one of the shapes.
[edit] Determining winners
- Rock beats Scissors -- the rock smashes the scissors
- Scissors beats Paper -- the scissors cuts the paper
- Paper beats Rock -- the paper wraps around the rock
