Wikigogy is C L O S E D

Wikigogy saw little action. So I closed it. It had been an interesting two years with some spurts of generous content writing from a handful of people. However, most months had seen no activity except spam bot fighting. Wikigogy -- Closed as of August, 2008 -- was a networking Web site for teachers of English as a second or foreign language.

  • Site may be removed soon. For now to fight spam efficiently Wikigogy will periodically be reverted to its August, 2008 state.
  • Comments about the site closure are welcome on the Main page.

TEFLChina/Real name workaround

From Wikigogy

Jump to: navigation, search

Most members of the TEFLChina email list community post using their real first and last names. Message you are uncomfortable putting our real name on may be the same messages we do not want on our forum anyway. We are a professional form, not an undiscriminating chat room. Requiring real names attaches your reputation among colleagues to what you post.

Below are alternatives to consider however:

[edit] Accepted workarounds

  • Pen name. You may use a pen name as long as, (1) I don't know you are doing it, (2) it is credible, and (3) you do not use it as a sock puppet, a false persona for the purpose of appearing to be more than one person. We are a professional forum. Please be your professional self and use your real name.
  • Munge. You might gracefully munged your real name in a way that discourages search engines from indexing it but provides it to your human readers. Example (three ways to munge Roger Chrisman):
R o g e r C h r i s m a n

Roger Chr1sman

R~o~g~e~r C~h~r~i~s~m~a~n
  • You can send an anonymous post if you need to through a list member you trust or through me, roger@teflchina.org. Explain your needs to that person and ask.
  • From header Full Name. I encourage you to do what most of us do: post here only what you are comfortable showing the world and use your real first and last name. Note that Family name may be omitted if you show it in your From line. You can usually set your From line in your email program. Example: "Roger Chrisman" <roger@teflchina.org>. If you send posts via the Yahoogroups Website interface, then put your first and last name in your Yahoo ID "Real Name" field (this is NOT your Yahoo Email settings).

Thanks,

Roger Chrisman, List Owner: roger at TEFLChina dot org
