[edit] List rules

When posting to the lists,

  1. Be friendly. Friendliness is the foundation of our volunteer help. Courtesy towards all persons and institutions is required—if anyone's post feels unfriendly email me privately at karen.stanley at cpcc dot edu (I care and need your feedback).
    • Do not use needlessly argumentative, immoderate nor cutting words, however subtly. Email stings too easily.
    • Use courteous English—don't write "english" or "chinese" nor omit spaces after periods or commas.
  2. Sign posts with your Full Name (Firstname Lastname). Be your professional self. You may sign simply your Firstname if your email's 'From' header clearly displays your Firstname Lastname.
  3. Use informative Subject lines. When topic diverges start a new thread with new Subject line.
  4. Do not quote whole screens of text when replying. Quote only a few lines when quoting and put them *above* your reply (dialog style).
  5. Copyrights count. DO NOT post copyrighted material without permission. You may summarize and or include brief quotes of others' copyrighted materials, news articles, etc. if you give full references. Please introduce the material by briefly sharing your perspective on it. See List Copyright, below.
  6. Privacy. Before forwarding others' emails or posts to the list, obtain their permission and put, "Forwarded with permission of original author(s)," at top.
  7. Plain text only. No HTML. No attachments. Please upload relevant non-plain text files to Wikigogy.org and put a link to the file in your post to the email list. Put a note on the file at Wikigogy to indicate which email list it is related to. Otherwise someone might deleted it. And understand you that by uploading a file to Wikigogy you license it to the world under our Copyleft.
  8. No cross-posting.
  9. Reporting professional misconduct or fraud. Posts reporting professional misconduct or fraud may not give the identity of the perpetrator nor, unless it is yourself, the name of the victim. You may however post about the misconduct or fraud as a generic warning to list colleagues as long as you do not name names (name of City is alright but no person nor institution name). If you want to name the person or institution, try Nate's China School Review or TEFL Watch or consider joining the TEFLChina Mentor List. If you do write a report on Nate's China School Review or TEFL Watch it is alright to post a note on TEFLChinaJob, mention the name of the city and that there is a negative (or positive) review of a school there and include a link to the relevant Webpage.
  10. No advertisements. Job ads are welcome that include full details.

Why moderate at all?

Posts may be edited by list moderators for readability or to meet list rules.

Posts may be rejected per moderator's discretion.

Each post's author is solely responsible for its contents.

We reserve the right to refuse membership.

[edit] Wikigogy

Wikigogy.org is our wiki for writing TEFL/TESL stuff. Welcome.

TEFLChina collaborative Web stuff is here on Wikigogy -- TEFLChina email lists continue at Yahoogroups with all collaborative webpage writing going on here at Wikigogy. Develop your lesson plan

[edit] Help

If after reading this Welcome message you still have any questions about your subscription, email me at karen.stanley at cpcc dot edu, explain what you are trying to do and include a copy of relevant error email you received from Yahoogroups (including the full headers). The headers help Karen help you.

[edit] Sort mail

Automatically sort your list mail into separate mailboxes to keep your In-Box clean.

[edit] Email clients

The following are the menu paths for setting up automatic filters in three popular email clients:

  • Eudora: Tools or Window > Filters...
  • Netscape Mail: Edit > Message Filters...
  • Microsoft Outlook: Tools > Mail Rules...

[edit] Webmail

How to sort mail is some Webmail services

  • Gmail - how to use filters and labels to sort list mail in Gmail's Webmail interface (if you use the free POP interface to download your Gmail to an email client, use the email client to sort the mail instead)

Whichever email program you are using on your computer, just set its mail filters/rules to find TEFLChina@, TEFLChinaJob@, TEFLChinaLife@ or whatever listname@ in the "To:" line and automatically transfer the message to separate TEFLChina, TEFLChinaLife, and TEFLChinaJob folders. Easy peasy lemon squeezy -- keeps your In-Box clean.

[edit] No mail?

If you unexpectedly stop receiving messages from a TEFLChina list for several days in a row, delivery of posts to your address may have been temporarily turned off by Yahoogroups due to messages bouncing off your address. You can turn your subscription back on -- unbounce yourself -- at Yahoogroups.com, or let me know at karen.stanley at cpcc dot edu and I will unbounce you.

[edit] Overmoderated?

TEFLChinaLife-UNMODERATED is a sister list owned and operated separately by Mike Mass for UNMODERATED discussion. To subscribe, send a blank email to: teflchinalife-unmoderated-subscribe@yahoogroups.com Mike can be reached at teflchinalife-unmoderated-owner at yahoogroups dot com

[edit] Feedback

Send me feedback about the TEFLChina email lists, their management, etc., privately. I care about you and the lists:
