Talk:Search
From Wikigogy
[edit] Technical
- Our server's MySQL configuration controlls some of the search features behavior like ignoring words of 3 or fewer characters and case insensitivity.
- The MediaWiki PHP code controlls the action of the [Go] and [Search] buttons and the results layout I think.
I don't want to tamper with either because I am not knowledgeable about either and it could get ugly and time consuming quickly.
I think the default behavior will work fine. --Roger 21:59, 25 April 2006 (UTC)
MediaWiki:Nonefound is where I edit the bellow tips that show up when you get zero search results. --Roger 00:17, 13 September 2007 (CDT)
Try fewer search terms because Wikigogy search finds only pages containing all of your search terms.
Only complete words will be found, eg roge does not find roger, nor does roger fond rogers.
Case is ignored so Roger finds roger and vice versa.
Common words like have and from are ignored by the search engine.
Words of three (3) or less characters are ignored by the search engine.
Punctuation is ignored, except underscore (_) and single quote (').
Negative hyphen (-) put before a search term, eg -roger, becomes negative and only pages not containing that term are found but only if you precede the hyphen with a space, eg teacher -roger, whereas teacher-roger is same as teacher roger and not negative.
Google will search it's Wikigogy index for you (which is usually a few weeks old though) if you type your search into their search box like this:
site:wikigogy.org something something
- ^ no space after colon ^ replace something something with your search terms
