Hello.
My name is Archie Arevalo aka the CHI Preacher.
I am a 45-year-old, male Filipino, and a teacher of English as a Foreign Language at the College of Humanities and Information (CHI) in Changchun. I've only been a teacher for five years, and I am getting so much satisfaction from the years I toil to teach my students English and other things that matter. This year (2006) is my fourth year at CHII was a technologist specializing in computer network and security before I was a teacher. I still consider myself inexperienced but I am proud to say that I do try my best in my work.
I truly love the feeling whenever a student thanks me for a class period of revelation and understanding. If I were to give an advise to my fellow teachers, I'd say that the classroom is a stage where the teacher entertains and interacts with the students. That way it is easier to get their attention, hence to teach them.
I think it is important for us EFL/ESL teachers to remember our students' names. I know it is hard and a lot of times, despairingly confusing but whenever I forget a student's name, I make it the topic of a conversation.
This is all for now. If you, for whatever reason, decides to open a channel of communication with me, I'd be most happy to accommodate another friend.
My present write-up is
- Changchun - hopefully to become a collaboration of teachers living and working in this city
