[edit] New Tricks

Roger, you old dog! Why am I not surprised to see you behind this? Bear 11:02, 22 June 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Appropriate product review

I work for a company that makes software for teaching English. I'd like to include, offer any information about it that would be appropriate, but I do not wish to spam or advertise inappropriately. I simply think information about our product, and any others like it, may be valuable to teachers. Please let me know if there is an appropriate way I can provide useful information. I'll be happy to link you to our website and a demo video, etc. if you need more information to make a decision. I won't link them unless you approve of course. Keep up the good work. I'm sure your site is doing and will do a lot of good. Pmaccabe 00:23, 24 June 2006 (UTC)

Philip, thanks for asking. Let's work together towards something that will help everyone. Let's talk further on your talk page... --Roger 06:27, 24 June 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Good on you!

Roger, you've combined two of my life's interests in forming this website, namely: ESL and Wikimedia. I think once it catches on it'll surpass all of the other ESL-related sites out there. Since discovering Wikipedia, I've always thought that it would be an excellent tool for teaching ESL, but now you've done it one better and created Wikigogy. I hope I can make valuable contributions to your site. Best wishes and we'll see you around Wikigogy. Matatigre36 05:18, 26 June 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Excel files?

Hi there. I would like to upload some .xls files for download from the Global inequality game page I've just created but I'm told .xls files are not permitted for upload. Any chance of changing this? I'm sure many other such lesson activites will use Excel files in the future too. For now I'm linking to another site for download. Cheers, Bobo12345 06:31, 17 October 2006 (UTC)

I have enabled .xls upload just now. Please give it a try and let me know if I can help further. Thanks for contributing to Wikigogy! :-) Roger 06:52, 17 October 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Clip art

(was Microsoft clipart)

What's the policy with regard to using Microsoft clipart pictures on Wikigogy? Is it copyrighted? For example I see that the image: Image:Bill's_crazy_spree_map.3.jpg contains some images from Microsoft clipart. Obivously the handout is the original work of whoever made it, but it does contain some copyrighted clipart. Is that ok? Bobo12345 01:23, 20 October 2006 (UTC)

Bobo, thanks for bringing up this important copyright question. I think we cannot use Microsoft clip art on Wikigogy. Plainly put, I think the Microsoft clip art license prohibits us from re-licensing it under Creative Commons Attribution Share-Alike 2.5. I don't want to tangle with multiple copyright licenses on Wikigogy. I want to simply have everything here under Creative Commons Attribution Share-Alike. So I will presently take down the Image:Bill's_crazy_spree_map.3.jpg version that uses Microsoft clip art and when I have time put up a version without Microsoft clip art that we can license under Creative Commons Attribution Share-Alike. (New version is now up at Image:Bill's_crazy_spree_map.jpg) Thanks for pointing this matter out. --Roger 03:28, 20 October 2006 (UTC)
I had a look around for some public domain clipart and found this site: WP Clipart. All images are in the public domain, so we should be able to use them on Wikigogy. By the way, are Wikigogy's servers in the US? If so, does that mean we have to abide by US copyright law, just as Wikipedia does? Bobo12345 09:25, 20 October 2006 (UTC)
  • I've started a Clip art page about where to find and how to use clip art for Wikigogy. I added http://www.wpclipart.com to it. Please add more good clip art sites and tips to the Clip art page as you find them. Clip art is an important part of creating attractive lesson material on Wikigogy. We can only use clip art that is licensed Public Domain or Creative Commons by Attribution or Creative Commons by Attribution Share-Alike. More at Copyleft. --Roger 22:27, 20 October 2006 (UTC)
  • Wikigogy is served from the US; we must follow US copyright law and I feel also international copyright law. More at Copyleft. --Roger 22:27, 20 October 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Thank you

For the warm welcome to Wikigogy. There's no doubt in my mind that these pages can turn into an amazing database for ESL/EFL teachers. But you're facing the start-up problem of any website: without much to offer (yet), you don't attract many users. And without users, no Wikigogy! But hey, here's one more to give you a hand! [edit] Finding Wikigogy

Hello.

Thank you for your message. Actually, I stummbled upon this wikigogy by chance you could say. I was surfing the net and on one of the searches I noticed the name WIKIGOGY in one of the addresses. I was curious as to what it was, I clicked and arrived here.

Being a WIKI user for quite some time now, I immediately felt right at home. I´ve been meaning to do something similar to this, but for some reason I haven´t come around to it. What I have done, more precisely in the process of, is set up a Wiki for my EFL students. I´m doing it with a PBWiki.

For now I´ll set up my profile and go through my things to find more activities. I´ve been teaching for a few years now, and I´ve come across a lot of activities, some good others not so good. Wikigogy is going to be great to organize and sort things out, so I´ll gradly be doing more contributions. Hopefully they will help other teachers at some time "localy or worldwide".

´Till next time --Eddiekar72 12:38, 23 June 2007 (CDT)
